Have you ever looked at your organization not from top to bottom, but in concentric rings?
We invite you to carry out a first “agility check” using the example of the “Collegial district circle”.
The model of the collegial district organization after Bernd Austria and Claudia Schröder represents the organization in four rings:
- In the middle the circle of the owner(s)
- This is followed by overarching management and coordination (e.g. strategy and vision).
- The third ring contains central service circles in which all central support services such as accounting, IT, human resources, etc. are located.
- In the outer ring, the business circles are positioned with all roles, tasks and processes that directly generate added value.
The organization is surrounded by its environment and market.
Now take an “empty” template with the organization circles at hand and set up your organization. Then please ask yourself the following questions:
- How dynamic is the market environment? Changes in the behaviour of customers, competitors, employees, suppliers, partners, legislators, etc.
- How great is the dynamism in your own products and services (external business circles)? New products, distribution channels, sales markets, business areas, etc.
- How great is the dynamism in your own work organisation (central services and business circles)? Changes in work equipment, work processes, Forms of work, division of labour, structures, roles etc.
- How great is the dynamism in your own leadership organization (superior leadership and coordination)? Changes in top management, owners, management structures, distribution of responsibilities and responsibilities, etc.
- How great is the dynamism of your own identity? Mergers with or takeover of other companies, division of companies, relocation etc.
With these five key questions, you can assess the situation of your company relatively quickly. The more clearly the questions can be answered in the affirmative, the greater the need for a targeted transition to collegial leadership principles.
